Big News: We’re Pregnant!!!

, , , , ,

Hey Everyone,

It’s been a crazy few weeks, but considering I’m now in my 13th week, it feels like it’s about time I posted our big news… I’m pregnant, and we are due with our first baby on August 8th, 2013! We just got the “All clear. Yes, this is really happening” speech from our OB last week. After letting things absorb, I feel like I can start to get excited now!

Brett of course if through the moon:)

And I am so excited to share this journey with everyone. Since it’s my first, there have already been “changes” or things I have just had to come to terms with and adjust lol. Overall, I feel like I have been very lucky so far… Fingers crossed everything stays that way:) I’ll have an update about my first trimester shortly!

Photos From Lake Tahoe 2012

, , , , ,

Hey Everyone,

Thought I’d share some Instagram photos with all of you from our trip after Christmas to Lake Tahoe…

There was SO much snow! The drive up was tough to say the least… 11.5 hours! I was definitely having a hard time the last few hours. Highway 80 was awful and it didn’t let up once we got to the 89, but we had pizza and family waiting for us when we got there which was nice. 😃

I stayed in most of the time, but we did daily walks with Calie and other pups in the neighborhood, and went snowmobiling one of the days! It was a fun experience… Freezing, but fun!

Here are some photos from my Instagram. Follow along to see constant updates of what I’m up to 😉

Best Tuna Salad Recipe Ever!

, ,

Hey Everyone!

Getting back to the swing of things feels good! Time to catch up with some recipes, so I thought I would shoot this one out that I put together again last night. You might recognize the pic from my Facebook page:)

It was so good! Not to mention EASY😉 lol… (Btw, I installed emoji onto my iPhone and I’m a bit obsessed, so forgive me if I go overboard with the face characters!)

Back to the food!…

Here’s how you’ll put it together:

In a bowl mix the following:
•1 can of white albacore tuna
•1 small handful of chopped parsley
•1 squeeze of lemon juice
•Salt & pepper to taste
•1tsp Dijon mustard
•1tsp light mayo

For the dressing:
•balsamic vinaigrette
•Dijon mustard
•minced or dried garlic
•honey or agave

Whisk until combined.
*Extra can be store in the fridge

For the greens I used spinach and baby kale leaves. Just throw them on a plate with the tuna on top. Drizzle the delicious dressing and enjoy! It’s a really filling but healthy salad, great for the new year!

How is your new year coming? Have you been sticking to those resolutions? I don’t know that I made one to be honest:) Brett’s goal is to put on 10lbs. of muscle! Looks like more cooking for me 😋 although he has been kicking up his cooking skills so this might just be a joint effort after all! So proud when I see my hubbie becoming more and more of a foodie!

I’ve been working on being less hard on myself (easier said then done) Sticking with healthy meals, small portions 5 times a day… but also relaxing a bit, by not feeling guilty if I have In n’ Out or pasta when I need/want it… It’s been going so far. On second thought, maybe I did make a resolution!

Hope you are all having a great week! Please tell friends about LifeOfANewWife, and I look forward to sharing more in 2013, it’s going to be the biggest year yet!

The Perfect Homemade Turkey Sandwich Recipe

, ,

Hey Everyone!

Happy New Year! I can’t believe it’s 2013 already! I’m so excited:) it’s going to be the best one yet, and I can’t wait to share it with you all!

Brett and I are in detox mode after our vacation in Tahoe after Christmas. It was great, but my body needs some clean food again:)

We did our normal cleaning and putting away of the Christmas decor, but also cleaned out the fridge and pantry of bad or unhealthy food. It starts with removing temptation;)

After getting groceries, I put this turkey sandwich together. It’s loaded with yummy, healthy ingredients, and tastes like a restaurant quality sandwich.

Here’s what you’ll need:

•Whole wheat bread
•Turkey meat
•Romaine lettuce
•1 tomato
•3 strips turkey bacon

Cut the turkey strips in half and brown them in a non-stick pan with a bit of Pam spray.

Toast the bread and spread with mustard (I like Dijon, but the yellow mustard will work too) and add pepper.

Layer on the lettuce and a slice of tomato. Then add 1 and 1/2 strips of turkey bacon or 3 pieces to each sandwich.

2 large slices of turkey meat go last, then assemble, cut, and enjoy!

I was in the mood for some of the fresh strawberries I picked up at the store so I grabbed some and poured a big glass if water.

This sandwich is so easy and tasty! A must have for a healthy lunch:)!

More to come… So stay tuned!

The Perfect Fall Lunch at Nick’s in Laguna Beach

, ,

Hey Guys,

Brett and I just had an amazing lunch at Nick’s in Laguna beach and had to share!

The restaurants location couldn’t be better for a Saturday or Sunday afternoon near the water. There’s a patio in front for some serious people watching too:)

We started with the Fire Roasted Artichoke marinated with chives, garlic & fresh herbs, and broiled to perfection! They served the artichoke with lemon butter and we devoured it;)

Next we shared the Grilled Steak Salad with sliced ribeye, mixed greens over warm potato salad, with croutons , a side of mustard, and a bacon vinaigrette. The dressing had just the right amount of acid, an the potato salad was creamy, without being heavy!

The dishes were so well balanced and full of flavor. I can’t wait to go back for more!

Easy Tips for Ordering @ A Restaurant

, , ,

Hey Everyone!

I went to Il Fornaio today in Irvine for lunch, and after ordering my entree, I realized it might be good to share some tips on how to keep it light while out, especially during the holidays:)

Since my schedule usually requires me to eat out at least twice a week, I can get bored of the usual Seared Ahi Tuna Salad, or plain chicken salad with balsamic vinaigrette.

Now that is finally fall in So Cal, I’m craving warm food! How about trying a grilled fish, and steamed veggies? This restaurant offered a sea bass that was Delish! I was able to order it with the lemon butter on the side. (Couldn’t believe how much it came with) lol…

So good!

Try to ask these questions while deciding on what to order:

•How hungry AM I? You may be able to get an appetizer portioned salad, rather then an
•Do I NEED the carbs?
•Can I get the sauce/dressing on the side?

Remember, you can always take the rest home….

Hope you are all having a great holiday season! I know it’s hard, but I think it’s all about balance. If your schedule allows you to get 5 workouts in consistently, you obviously have more room to indulge. If your schedules too crazy to get the activity in, you have to be more strict with your diet if you don’t want to pack on the pounds before New Years:)

Happy Holidays! Be good, but have fun:)!

Try NOT To Get Sick This Holiday Season!

Hey Everyone!

IDK about you, but it seems like everyone is or has been sick lately! How about trying to avoid that? Lol. I know it’s easier said then done, but sticking to these few tips can really help!:

•Carry sanitizer & wash hands frequently
• load up on Vitamin C!
•Clean surfaces like keyboards, chairs etc. at the office that are used by multiple people

Good luck! Fingers crossed we’ll be a few of the luck ones!

Teavana: I’m Obsessed!

Hey Guys,

Hope everyone is having a great week! Thought I would catch up on some products I’ve been in love with lately:)! Brett’s aunt Diane got me hooked on Teavana while we were in San Francisco last week, and on her all glass teapot:)

After we got back I did some research an found out there is a shop at South Coast Plaza! (I had NO idea.)

I looked up pricing on different glass teapots before heading there… Sur la Table and Williams Sonoma also make similar products. All prices were competitive for the most part, but the other companies products had metal filters and I was looking for ALL glass.

The store itself was busy, but welcoming. They do a great job emphasizing the importance of product knowledge to their team. I got a bit overwhelmed to be honest, but came out with a teapot, 2 teas, the airtight containers, & 1/2lb of… German Sugar?

Lol… So I may have gone a bit overboard… Te tea REALLY IS delicious though:) Plus, I plan on using it often. I’m trying to cut down on my coffee intake. I was averaging 2-4 cups a day for the past few months with everything going on… Not anymore!

I’ve been drinking a mixture of the 2 teas every other day since I got them and haven’t felt a huge drop in energy. Oolong teas contain almost NO Caffeine, while the Mate teas are 100% (about the same as a cup of coffee) so blending them cuts the caffeine down by half, and mellows out the strong flavors of the Mate tea.

I’m excited for my new obsession, and think you would be too!

Vanda Siam Restaurant in San Francisco

, ,

Hey Everyone!

Couldn’t go to SF and not tell you guys about the food experiences:)! Brett and I went into the city the day before Thanksgiving to explore some neighborhoods and some delicious food. I’ve been craving Thai food lately, so a Yelp search lead us to a place off of Sacramento & Spring St. called Vanda Siam Restaurant.

I’m a sucker for a Green Papaya Salad, so we started with that, and some green tea. Brett ordered some Chicken Fried Rice, and I put in an order of Pad See Ew with chicken: chicken, rice noodle, fried egg, and steamed broccoli. We split everything and it was probably one of the best Thai food meals I’ve ever had, and all for under $30!

I hope you all had a yummy and beautiful Thanksgiving!

Lots of Love,
Mrs. B
